The Luckett Family
The Luckett Household was headed by John C. (April 22, 1864 – March 26, 1932), and consisted of him, his wife Lizzie (December 3, 1879 - February 13, 1965), and their twelve children of which Robert was the youngest. John and Lizzie Luckett married in 1896.
His father, John C. Luckett was a Mississippi born farmer of two Georgia natives. Though he went without the ability to read or write the entirety of his life, he managed to rise in his occupation from a simple farm laborer to an employer in the industry. This success in the ten years from 1910 to 1920, paved the route for the family to go from renting a house to owning one.
Lizzie Luckett, the matriarch of the family, was the daughter of two Mississippians. She was a woman of mulatto complexion and worked as a laborer on a farm. Unlike her husband, Lizzie Luckett was educated and thus able to read and write. She mothered all twelve Luckett children.
Lizzie was laid to rest in Saint Mary of the Springs Catholic Cemetery with her husband.
The Luckett children were: Cleophas (September 7, 1891- August 1, 1984), Clifton (August 6, 1893 - ?), Maggie (1900 - ?), Lillie (1902 - ?), Henrietta (1904 - ?), Johnnie (1906 - ?), John (1910 - ?), D Aniya (1899 - ?), Mary Lou (1911- ?), Leila (1913 - ?), Ella (1916 - ?), and Robert.
Cleophas was the first-born child of John and Lizzie Luckett. Subsequently, by the time Robert was born, Chafus was no longer residing in the family household. As by Robert’s birth in 1919 Cleophas was approximately twenty-nine years old and starting a family of his own. Cleophas married Martha Shearrill (April 8, 1894 – September 24, 1991) and fathered five children. His children are Elma, Elsie, John Willie (June 2, 1919 - June 17, 2001), Merrick (November 19, 1921 – May 5, 2014), and Mary. He was buried in Saint Mary of the Springs Catholic Cemetery with the family.
Clifton like Cleophas was out of the household by the time Robert was born in 1919. According to his WW1 Draft Card Registration, Clifton was twenty-four years old when he registered. He and Cleophas both registered with Cleophas’ draft card numbered 42 and his 44.
